A Segment* is a group of pages (also called "functions") that allow a Visitor* to do specific tasks within the Referee Management Site*. For example, you are currently reading a page in a Segment called Documentation*, which provides Visitors with support information.

Some Common Segments

The following chart describes the Segments used on most Referee Management Sites:

SegmentPurpose
Administrator Permits the SiteManager to directly manage the Site, including Database management and diagnostic tools.
Assignor Allows Assignors to manage the assignment processes and guarantee that Referees are assigned appropriate Assignments
Assessor Allows Assessors to manage Assessment processes
Information Provides information that is publicly available to any Visitor*
Logon Allows Users to identify themselves to the Site
Forum Allows Users to Review and Post comments with other Users
Officer Provides features and functions restricted to the Board of Directors (usually)
Organization Allows the Chapter's "Clients" to interact with the Site
Referee Allows a Referee* to interact with the Chapter with respect to his or her Assignments
Services Provides functions available to ALL individuals that Logon to the Site

This is not an all inclusive list of available Segments! RidgeStar customizes each Site to provide the Segments needed by each Chapter.

How to determine what Segments your Site needs

Think in terms of the different Roles within your Chapter and pinpoint your expectations for these various Chapter participants. The distinct usage permissions of each Role within your Chapter will define the Segments your Site requires. For example, you may want to include Segments for Assignors, Referees, and Administrators.

Each User* can interact with the Site in any combination of the Roles you define. For example, a User can be a Referee, an Assignor, and an Officer, all at the same time. Thus, he or she could logon to access the Referee, Assignor, and Officer Segments, but not the Administrator or other non-public Segments.
